A947 Route Improvement Strategy – Community Council Consultation
AECOM has been commissioned by Aberdeenshire Council to prepare a Route Improvement
Strategy for the A947 designed to shape how the route is developed over the next 20 years.
In response to road safety concerns and accidents along the route in recent years, the A947 has
been subject to various studies which have resulted in engineering improvements and increased
speed enforcement. While work on local engineering interventions and route enforcement will
continue in order to reduce the accident rates, a longer term strategy for the A947 is now being
developed to set out the improvements required to address strategic objectives for the route for
increased safety and improved journey times over the next 20 years.
As part of this work, consultation will be undertaken with route users, including communities
along the route, to better understand existing problems and issues experienced, including
potential improvements that residents along the corridor would like to be considered as part of
the development of a future route improvement strategy.
As a Community Council located on the corridor, we are keen to engage with you and gather
your feedback. Specifically, we would welcome your feedback in terms of:
– What, if any, do you see as being the main problems and issues on the A947, now and in
the future? and
– What options or improvements would you like to see implemented to improve the A947?
Should you prefer, we would be pleased to attend a future meeting of the Community Council to
discuss issues in more detail. If you would like us to attend a future meeting, I would be grateful if
you could contact me to discuss suitable dates.
Finally, throughout July and August, we are running an online survey to gather wider community
feedback on the project.
The survey – available at www.a947survey.net – will be promoted through articles in the local press while hard copies will also be made available at local libraries and community centres.
In addition, any assistance that the Community Council can provide in terms of promoting the survey amongst the local community would be most appreciated. Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch via my details below.
